Howard Homecoming returns to Washington, D.C., October 11–18, 2026, under the theme Wildest Dreams: I Am My Ancestor’s Wildest Dreams. The week still carries the pieces people travel for—YardFest, the Divine Nine fundraising brunch, the Greek Step Show and Howard versus Morehouse—but this year’s plan has one major change: the Homecoming parade is postponed.
The 2026 schedule to build around
Howard’s official Homecoming calendar is the source of truth. The strongest public events are concentrated from Thursday through Sunday.
Sunday, October 11
Call to Chapel, 11 a.m. The week opens with worship, followed by the Royal Court Coronation at 6 p.m.
Thursday, October 15
Red, White and Bison Gala, 6 p.m. The Student Fashion Show begins at 7 p.m. Ticket and audience rules vary by event.
Friday, October 16: the D9 culture block
Divine Nine Fundraising Brunch, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at Blackburn Center Ballroom. Registration is hosted through Howard’s GiveCampus page.
YardFest Day 1, noon–6 p.m. on The Yard, with the Sixth Street Festival’s food and merchandise vendors. Howard says YardFest is free.
Greek Step Show, 8 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium. The official listing did not show a public ticket-purchase link when this guide was checked on October 5; monitor the official event page rather than buying from an unverified seller.
Saturday, October 17
FamFest begins at 11 a.m. in The Valley. International YardFest Day 2 runs noon–3:30 p.m. Then Howard meets Morehouse at 3:30 p.m. in Greene Stadium. Buy football tickets through Howard’s official ticket portal.
Sunday, October 18
The week closes with Call to Chapel at 11 a.m., the Young Alumni Brunch from 1–4 p.m. and the Gospel Concert at 7 p.m.
What changed: no parade in 2026
Howard’s official FAQ says the Homecoming parade is postponed because of construction and related road impacts along Georgia Avenue. This is not a small logistics note: it changes the Saturday flow and removes an event many visitors may still expect from older schedules.
Road and parking-lot closures begin as early as Tuesday, October 13. Howard lists closures affecting 6th Street, Howard Place, Girard Street, Bison Boulevard and Fairmont Street, with additional Friday and Saturday closures. Unauthorized vehicles may be ticketed or towed.
Transportation and parking
Howard strongly recommends Metro or rideshare. The University points visitors to Shaw–Howard University, U Street and Georgia Avenue–Petworth. The first two are the most natural starting points for the main campus; both are served by Metro’s Green and Yellow lines. Check WMATA’s Shaw–Howard University station page on travel day for service information.
- Saturday shuttle change: Howard says all weekend shuttles will drop off only at Sherman Avenue and Barry Place.
- Do not count on campus parking: multiple major lots close during the week, and the University warns that parking is limited.
- Recheck the official logistics page: parts of the page currently show stale or conflicting date labels. Use the current closure window, live alerts and the Howard Shuttle App before leaving.
Where to stay
Howard has not published an official public hotel block on the central Homecoming site. For the simplest trip, start with Shaw, U Street or nearby downtown neighborhoods so you can reach campus without relying on event parking. Destination DC’s official Shaw and U Street guides provide current neighborhood context, while its hotel directory lets you compare properties. Verify the cancellation policy and walking route before booking.
Bag rules, access and safety
- No bags at events in Blackburn Ballroom, Cramton Auditorium or Burr Gymnasium.
- Clear-bag policy at Greene Stadium, including the Homecoming football game. Read Howard Public Safety’s Homecoming safety page before packing.
- Security screening is expected at major events; drones are prohibited.
- Accessibility: Howard states that major venues have ADA-accessible entrances and seating. For assistance, contact Howard University Department of Public Safety at 202-806-1100 or hudps@howard.edu.
- Weather: Homecoming events are rain or shine.
