What makes this weekend worth planning for

The MEAC/SWAC Challenge is the season-opening showcase between teams from two of the conferences most closely associated with HBCU football. In 2026, Howard represents the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Alabama A&M represents the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The official event calendar is built around more than the game: it includes a high-school seminar, alumni gatherings, a golf challenge, a scholarship breakfast, a fan experience and band performances.

For Divine Nine members, alumni groups and families traveling together, that wider schedule matters. It creates natural windows for chapter meetups, school reunions and multigenerational HBCU fellowship without requiring every gathering to happen at the stadium.

Confirmed 2026 weekend schedule

Thursday, August 27

  • 9:00–11:00 a.m.: High School Seminar. The official event describes this as a career and life-skills program centered on opportunities in sports beyond the playing field.
  • 7:00–10:00 p.m.: Alabama A&M MEAC/SWAC Kickoff Pep Rally at Westside Motor Lounge. The event page says the first 200 alumni who RSVP receive free admission.

Friday, August 28

  • 7:00 p.m.: ESPN Welcome Reception at Retreat by The Gathering Spot.

Some ancillary events require separate tickets or an RSVP. Use the official event schedule for the current links and availability.

Tickets, seating and entry

Game tickets are on sale through the event’s official ticket page. The organizer states that sales are final, with no refunds or exchanges, and that there is no re-entry after a ticket has been scanned. Children age two and younger may enter without a ticket only when seated on a parent or guardian’s lap.

Because the weekend includes several separately organized activities, do not assume a game ticket covers the golf challenge, scholarship breakfast, team tailgate or any other ticketed function. Review each event link before checkout and save confirmations to your phone.

Venue and local context

Center Parc Stadium is at 755 Hank Aaron Drive SE in Atlanta’s Summerhill area, just south of downtown. The site was originally built for the 1996 Olympic Games and later became Turner Field before its conversion to a football stadium. For this event, the official Fan Experience is listed for Summerhill Parking Lot A.

Atlanta visitors can use the event organizer’s Plan Your Visit page for the current seating map, parking map, airport-district hotel link and local travel resources. It also points visitors to Discover Atlanta’s Black travel guide for neighborhood context, restaurants and attractions.

Transportation and parking

The organizer currently lists prepaid parking at $25 plus taxes and fees for cars and $40 plus taxes and fees for RVs. The RV window is listed from Friday at noon through Sunday at noon. Parking can be purchased from the link on the official travel page.

Build extra time into your arrival: the Fan Experience begins four and a half hours before kickoff, multiple event activities share the stadium area, and Atlanta traffic can change quickly. If you plan to use public transit or rideshare, check the current route or pickup instructions on event day rather than relying on an old map. MARTA riders can start with the official MARTA trip planner using the stadium address.

Where to stay

The event organizer says all official hotels are in the ATL Airport District near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. That can be practical for air travelers and groups coordinating different arrival times. It is not the same as staying beside the stadium, so compare transportation time, parking and cancellation terms before booking.

Use the hotel link on the official Plan Your Visit page rather than an unofficial room-block message. If your chapter or alumni group needs several rooms, confirm the property name, dates, deposit, parking charge and cutoff date directly with the hotel.

Clear-bag, prohibited-item and re-entry rules

Center Parc Stadium uses a clear-bag policy. Each ticketed guest may bring one clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12 × 6 × 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear freezer bag, plus one small clutch no larger than 4.5 × 6.5 inches. The official policy allows medical-equipment bags and diaper bags after inspection under the stated conditions.

The stadium guide also lists backpacks, umbrellas, outside food and drink, coolers, artificial noisemakers, drones and weapons among prohibited items. All bags are subject to search. Review the event bag policy and Center Parc gameday guide before packing.

Accessibility planning

Guests who need accessible seating or other accommodations should contact venue guest services before arrival. Center Parc’s contact page provides an accessibility contact and notes that questions about ADA-accessible parking can be directed to the venue. Medical or special-needs bag exceptions are subject to inspection at the gate. See the Center Parc contact page for current assistance information.

A practical packing checklist

  • Mobile ticket and a backup screenshot or wallet pass
  • Government-issued ID if needed for your ticketed area
  • Clear bag within the 12 × 6 × 12-inch limit
  • Portable charger and charging cable
  • Comfortable shoes for the Fan Experience and stadium walk
  • Weather-appropriate layers; check the Atlanta forecast shortly before departure
  • Parking confirmation or a saved transit/rideshare plan
  • Separate confirmations for any breakfast, golf, tailgate or reception ticket

FratRings picks for the HBCU weekend

If the weekend is also a reunion or chapter-photo moment, shop only for the organization you belong to and review licensing information on the product page. Current FratRings options include the Kappa Alpha Psi Official Series Ring, Phi Beta Sigma Official Series Ring and Omega Psi Phi Official Series Ring in silver. Made-to-order and personalized pieces require production time, so check the product page rather than assuming event-week delivery.
