Omega Psi Phi has a new chapter in Montego Bay. Its name is Omicron Xi Nu—and the story to follow is what it will build with its community.

The fraternity’s national announcement confirms the Jamaican chapter and places it within Omega’s International District. Grand Basileus Mark E. Jackson’s letter identifies mentoring young men, academic excellence and service to the youth of St. James as central priorities. He addresses the charter brothers as the “Reggae Quez.”

What the dates actually tell us

The national webpage carries an October 1, 2026 publication date, while the letter on that page is dated October 8. The organizer’s celebration listing advertises October 8–12 in Montego Bay. Those are different kinds of dates, not interchangeable proof of the exact charter ceremony date.

As of this article’s October 12 publication, the advertised celebration window is ending. This is coverage of the chapter’s establishment and purpose, rather than an invitation to book a trip for a weekend that is already underway. We have not independently confirmed a separate charter instrument date or a completed-event attendance total.

Omega Psi Phi’s 2026 Omicron Xi Nu guide pairs an archival Montego Bay coast photo with three service priorities.

A Howard beginning, an international history

Omega’s own historical account places its founding at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on November 17, 1911. Undergraduates Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman founded the fraternity with faculty adviser Ernest Everett Just.

Its international story also predates today’s social feeds. The fraternity identifies Sigma Chapter at McGill University in Montreal, chartered December 15, 1923, as its first international chapter. That history gives the Montego Bay news useful context: Omicron Xi Nu extends an established international brotherhood. Calling it Omega’s first chapter outside the United States would erase more than a century of that history.

For readers who know Omega mainly through campus life or homecoming, this is a reminder that the organization’s story continues far beyond a university yard. A chapter announcement opens a new local story within a much larger institution.

The next story is the work

A charter announcement establishes an important milestone. It does not, by itself, tell us how many students have been mentored, which schools have partnered with a chapter or how much scholarship money has been awarded. Those are follow-up questions worth asking—and reporting with evidence.

Omega’s national program framework offers useful context. Its scholarship work supports academic achievement, its Fatherhood and Mentoring initiative encourages sustained relationships with young people, and Talent Hunt creates opportunities for artistic recognition. STEM programming is another part of the fraternity’s youth-focused work.

These are national programs, not a verified list of completed Omicron Xi Nu projects. For this chapter, the strongest follow-up reporting would identify local partners, the people served, dates and measurable results. A photograph of a celebration can mark a beginning; consistent reporting can show what follows it.

What to watch next: public announcements of school or community partnerships, mentoring opportunities, scholarship criteria and service outcomes. We will distinguish plans from completed work. No local scholarship application, volunteer signup or donation destination is being endorsed in this article.

Questions readers are asking

What is the new Omega chapter in Montego Bay called?

Omicron Xi Nu. Use the national announcement linked above as the source when sharing the news.

Does this mean anyone can join by attending a public event?

No. Reading about a chapter, attending a public celebration or purchasing a gift does not establish membership. For membership questions, consult Omega’s official membership information and verified fraternity contacts.

Where should I follow official updates?

Start with Omega Psi Phi’s national website and @officialoppf, identified by the fraternity’s own official digital gateway. We have not verified a chapter-specific Instagram handle, so we are not guessing one.

Is this an official Omega or chapter publication?

No. FratRings is an independent publisher and licensed merchandise retailer. Licensing does not make this article an official chapter statement or imply endorsement of our reporting.

Sources and reporting notes

We checked the national charter announcement, official fraternity history, national program descriptions and organizer’s event listing. Watch The Yard also covered this chapter on October 10; its coverage helped surface the story. Our report adds independently checked chronology, historical context and a clear distinction between the chapter’s stated mission and results still to be documented.

Send this to a brother who follows Omega’s international story. The next milestone worth celebrating will be the chapter’s work with the people it serves.
